Shimano Canada has joined IMBA Canada as an “Above and Beyond” corporate member for the 2015 season. This commitment of support will help improve IMBA Canada’s capabilities through increased funding for the Trail Care Crew.

The IMBA Canada Trail Care Crew program has been promoting sustainable trail development across Canada since 2010. The crew has worked wit landowners and bike clubs across the country, as well as developing a key partnership with Parks Canada. IMBA Canada helps represent mountain bikers’ interests when working with stakeholders both locally and nationally.

“IMBA excels at taking a professional approach to trail design and sustainable resource use and we are proud to be a ‘partner in conservation’ with their Parks Canada initiative,” said Phil Morlock, Director, Environmental Affairs, Shimano Canada Ltd. “One of the best ways to increase mountain bike opportunities on public land is by working with natural resource managers to develop and improve bike trails responsibly.”

The funds from the deal will be directed towards the Trail Care Crew and will enable IMBA to hire more program staff. The crew will also be able to take on more club visits this season.

The program has a history of inspiring some of the best trail projects in the country and is well respected by land-managers. Through increasing stewardship of Canada’s public lands, the program helps to promote Canada’s natural heritage and engage trail users from coast to coast.

“With Shimano Canada’s support, we’re looking forward increasing the capacity of the Trail Care Crew, and responding to program demand with an evolving repertoire of professional trainings and presentations,” said Lora Woolner, executive director of IMBA Canada.

Last month, IMBA Canada announced a renewal of support for the Trail Care Crew by Subaru Canada. Both agreements are positive signs of IMBA Canada’s renewal after challenges faced in recent years.
