Ride with the Pros

Andrew rode with the SpiderTech team at the Ride with the Pros. The guys are getting stronger and finding racing in Europe more manageable.

I had a great ride this weekend with the SpiderTech boys, my old team-mates. Saturday was the Ride with the Pros, a fundraiser for the team and a chance for folks in the GTA to ride with some of Canada’s top cycling talents. It was great to get out and see the guys, they’ve been away in Europe kicking butt and I wanted to hear some of their stories.

The ride this year was 80 km, split into two loops to make it possible for cyclists with a variety of fitness levels to ride together. We started off with a loop over towards Milton and the site of the new velodrome – very cool – then headed back west along the escarpment and out into the countryside. I think of all the rides I did with the team this one perhaps had the best turn-out, with everyone all decked out in SpiderTech team kit and riding promo Argons. Quite the sight I think.

Best of all was getting to catch up with the guys and some of the folks involved with the team. What was most exciting to hear was what some of the riders had to say about riding in Europe. They are starting to feel like the racing is way more manageable, which is showing in their results. Not being on the rivet all the time is the first step to make racing in Europe a realistic endeavour. It goes to show that Canadians are world class, they just need exposure to top end racing, which will push their bodies and minds towards achieving great things. Let’s all give credit to Steve and Josee and their partnership with SpiderTech and the opportunities that they are creating.
