Pro bike racers are known to inspire the next generation, especially when they’re former multiple world champions. During the 2023 UCI Road Worlds, a 3-year-old fan took off on the sidewalk when he saw the French rider Julian Alaphilippe approaching. The toddler’s father, Murray Duff, posted the video pf his son Cam in response to the event’s Twitter account, which asked for media coverage of fan experiences at the races.

In the video, the young Scot glances back to see the Soudal–Quick-Step rider approaching and accelerates to race alongside him.

It’s reminiscent of a similar scene from the 2021 Tour of Britain. During stage seven a young cyclist named Xander Graham pedaled in sync with the breakaway group. As the quartet of escapees cruised alongside him, Graham surged forward on the sidewalk. In a remarkable exchange, Pascal Eenkhoorn from Team Jumbo-Visma handed Graham a water bottle as he sped by, crafting a memorable instant that left a mark not just on the young Scottish rider, but also on cycling enthusiasts worldwide.
