Video: The chocolatier’s power bar recipe

Thomas Haas of Thomas Haas Chocolates in Vancouver shows us how easy it is to make your own 100 per cent natural power bar

Reaching into your pocket and pulling out good riding food is so rewarding. Now imagine if you are riding along, reach into your pocket and pull out a delightful chocolatier’s power bar. As an avid cyclist and chocolatier, Thomas Hass shows us how easy it is to make your own riding food that is decadently delicious and absolutely a fitting reward for while you are out riding.

Knowing that what you are fueling with was made in your own kitchen is also nice and with options to slightly alter the recipe to your own personal preferences allows you to make adjustments accordingly.

With riding food, it’s good to put your recipes through a test run before needing to rely on them. This way you can make sure they have the right consistency, the desired flavour and will allow you to see if they provide the right nutrition strategy.

Making your own bars may be a little bit of work but ultimately can be a lot of fun as well. It’s nice to have some options in your repertoire so start dialing in those recipes now. The next time you reach for some food before heading out the door, hopefully you’ll have some on hand and that way you will be munching on something delicious during your ride or race, something all your riding friends will be envious of.
