So much bike racing! So. So. So. Much. There’s been all kinds of amazing stories from Scotland, whether on the track, road or trails.
1. Isabella Holmgren gets double rainbows
Orillia’s Isabella Holmgren got her second rainbow jersey of 2023, taking the junior women’s XC championship. Coming in second was fellow Canuck Marin Lowe, making for an historical day of racing for Canada. Holmgren’s Stimulus-Orbea’s teammate Ian Ackert snagged a bronze in the junior men’s race too.

2. Remco makes up for the road race with a win in the TT
The Belgian had a disappointing ride in his defence of the road title, but took a great win over Filippo Ganna in the time trial.

3. Mathieu van der Poel crashes and breaks his shoe
The cycling world gasped when the Dutchman wiped out with 16.5 km to go. When he got up, you could see his upper Boa was dangling. Thankfully he still had the lower one to keep his shoe somewhat tight, and he finished with an incredible victory.

4. Canada’s para cyclists just keep medalling
Mel Pemble, Nathan Clement, Keely Shaw, Shelly Gautier. Medals and rainbow jerseys galore in a great week for Canada’s para athletes.

5. We learn a little too much about MvdP pooping
The new world champion had to take an emergency bathroom break during the halted race due to the protests. The next day, there was even a Strava segment named after the moment.

German rider Luca Schwarzbauer wasn’t happy with the Olympic MTB champion’s line in the final corner of the short track.

The finishing circuits in Glasgow were criticized by some for having too many corners. The pace from the second the field entered the Scottish city was wild, and made for one of the best world championship road races in years.
