Team Canada announced for 2023 UCI world championships
130 athletes headed to multi-disciplinary event
Cycling Canada has announced the squad headed to the 2023 UCI cycling world championships in Glasgow, with 130 athletes set to represent the country.
The event, scheduled from Aug. 3 to Aug. 13, is being called the “super worlds” as it will feature competitors from almost all disciplines in cycling, road, track, MTB, artistic cycling and para. The only event not taking place in Glasgow is cyclocross, which remains in the winter.

Scott Kelly, the chief sport officer of Cycling Canada, expressed enthusiasm about the championships.
“This year’s world championships are an opportunity to showcase the depth and breadth of Canadian cycling talent in all disciplines and all age groups,” Kelly said. “We’re excited about our chances and eager to represent Canada on the world’s biggest stage.”
Repeating rainbows
Among the athletes seeking to defend their titles and retain their rainbow jerseys for a second consecutive year are Dylan Bibic in the scratch race and Mel Pemble in the omnium and scratch race. Carson Mattern, the junior individual pursuit and omnium will ride in his first elite world championships. Isabella Holmgren, who became Canada’s first junior cyclo-cross world champion in February 2023, aims to expand her collection by vying for mountain bike and road titles.
One of the standout competitors will be Jackson Goldstone, the 2021 junior downhill world champion, who will now compete in the elite category, seeking to grab the rainbow jersey.
The Canadian team will also feature other strong contenders, including Tokyo 2020 medalists like Kelsey Mitchell and Lauriane Genest for track events, and Keely Shaw and Kate O’Brien for para-track cycling. Furthermore, two-time triathlon Olympian Paula Findlay will make her debut in the world championships for cycling, racing the ITT.

The elite women’s road team is sending a very strong team with Olivia Baril, Alison Jackson, Sara Poidevin, Sarah Van Dam and Maggie Coles-Lyster. The men’s squad for the road will include Giro revelation Derek Gee, Hugo Houle, Guillaume Boivin, Pier-André Côté, Charles-Étienne Chrétien, Ben Perry and newly-crowned national champion Nickolas Zukowsky.
