On Sunday, under sunny skies, Michael Vanthourenhout of Belgium won the men’s under-23 cyclocross world championship race. Laurens Sweeck (Belgium) and Stan Godrie (The Netherlands) had a heated battle for second in the last lap, but a fall by Godrie allowed Sweeck to pull ahead. Sweeck joined Vanthourenhout on the podium for a Belgian one/two. Godrie settled for bronze. Canada’s Danick Vandale finished 46th, 7:12 behind Vanthourenhout.
